strategic financial training courses
for non-financial Leaders

Understand your financial statements and hold your own in senior-level discussions

Do you feel as if you lack the confidence to challenge financial decisions at senior level? Do you want to influence the financial decisions in your organisation and demonstrate that you understand their impact? Are you worried that understanding finance is the missing piece of the jigsaw for you in gaining credibility with leaders, clients and other stakeholders? Do you want to participate in discussions around finance in a more meaningful way? With your peers, with the Exec Co or Board, with your accountants? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then you are in the right place!

Our workshops demystify the technical jargon associated with finance and put everything into plain English for you. You will leave feeling confident to assess your own organisation’s financial health and able to ask pertinent questions of your finance Team.

the power of unlocking
Your numbers

It is critical that leaders and senior managers understand the language of finance so that they can interpret their company’s numbers. We can demystify the jargon for you so that you can read your statements with ease and take meaningful actions as a result. If you are a senior leader or aspire to be one, you need to understand the impact financially of any strategic and commercial decisions you make and be able to talk knowledgeably when discussing financial issues.

in-house courses for organisations

Bring your teams up-to-speed with minimal disruption to everyday business!

We can deliver any financial workshop at your premises or a venue of your choosing. These are capped at 12 people to ensure that everyone can work at a reasonable pace.

Some organisations have successfully incorporated these workshops into a Team Away Day (yes really!) or Board Meeting Days. Just an idea… Get in touch below if you would like to know more.

4 open courses throughout the year

Learn alongside leaders from other types of organisation and industry sector by joining us on an open course held in either central London or at our own training facilities in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Book now in The Academy for 16th July and 5th September for open workshops at our Stratford-upon-Avon training facility. The day will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with lunch and refreshments provided. It will be practical, highly interactive and fun!

I believe everyone should understand their organisation’s numbers and business model. That way the entire organisation is aligned around what actions are on target and are the most effective.

what you’ll learn

  • Financial reports are full of technical jargon and old-fashioned terminology such as “debtors” and “creditors”. This workshop will cut through this, enabling you to very quickly see what lies beneath. We promise to translate everything into plain English!

  • All financial statements are underpinned by core financial concepts such as accruals and depreciation. Understanding these are integral to understanding your key financial statements.

  • Typically we get P&L responsibility earlier in our careers than any interaction with the Balance Sheet. You will come away with a very clear understanding of the P&L’s structure and what each line of profit signifies. Terms such as EBIT and EBITDA will also be explained clearly.

  • To cut to the chase, we all want to improve our bottom line. You will learn the financial and non-financial profit levers that will combine to maximise your net profit.

  • This is a statement that most leaders struggle to understand. We will explain this in everyday terms to ensure that you can make sense of this essential statement.

  • You will learn how to assess a company’s financial health in terms of profitability, liquidity and gearing.

who attends

CEO’s and board directors

It is not unusual to get right to the top of an organisation and still only have a limited understanding of how the financial statements link together and what they represent.

All board directors (executive directors and NEDs) share responsibility for the annual financial statements (they are not, as is commonly misunderstood, the sole responsibility of the Finance Director) so it is important to understand what these are saying.

Directors also share responsibility with the auditors of signing off on the “going concern” concept so you must understand how to check your liquidity levels and know that the business will be viable for the next accounting period.

We also offer executive financial coaching if you would prefer to do this one-to-one using your own numbers.

senior LEADERS

Whether your specialism is in Marketing or Logistics, every action you take will have a direct impact on your organisation’s financial results. It is essential therefore that you know that your efforts are being directed in the most strategic way.

Having a good knowledge of the financials will also stand you in good stead as you progress to more senior leadership positions.

Charities and Not-for-Profits

Profit or Surplus, Loss or Deficit, the core financial principles remain the same, no matter if you are in the private or public or NFP sectors.

If you are funded by public money or charitable donations, then it is even more imperative that you have a grasp of your numbers so that you can ensure that your income is utilised in the most effective way possible.

What People Are Saying

The online finance training modules for non-financial managers were delivered perfectly.  The training was clear, concise, uncomplicated and interactive using great exercises & examples.  The delivery of the training is re-assuring and left me feeling a lot more confident & knowledgeable about business finance than prior to the training.  Would highly recommend, many thanks.”

- reetu sandhu, operations director, scientifica LTD

“I wanted to say thank you for the course and your learning style. It was great and I took loads of information away from the day. I also just had a big customer wanting to trade with us and I went on Companies House and spent a good 30 minutes analysing his accounts looking at last year’s figures and this year’s figures, who the holding company was and really starting to understand his business from the financials. It really helped. Thanks once again!”

- Kristian Brown, Regional Manager, manufacturing client

“Today was great and I learned a lot. It will help me think about resource allocation and planning more strategically. You managed to demystify a lot of financial jargon for me and your examples and anecdotes really enlivened the session.”
